Community Access Support in Gold Coast

Community access support in Gold Coast typically costs $50-$70/hour (group rates available) per hour for individual support. Group rates are lower because the support worker cost is shared between multiple participants. Group programs can bring the effective per-person rate down to $25 to $40 per hour or less depending on group size and the ratio of participants to staff.

For NDIS participants, community access falls under Core Supports, specifically "Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation." Registered providers charge within the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. Weekend, evening, and public holiday rates are higher than weekday rates.

For aged care clients, community access and social participation support is covered under Home Care Packages as part of "Social Support and Activities." Rates depend on the provider and your package level. CHSP does not always fund individual community access, but some group social programs are available through CHSP-approved providers.

Community access support involves a trained support worker accompanying you into the community to take part in activities, social events, appointments, shopping, recreation, or any other activity that is meaningful to you. The support worker's role is to facilitate your participation, not to make decisions for you.

The process begins with a discussion about your goals and interests. What activities do you want to do? Are there social connections you want to build or maintain? Are there barriers such as transport, anxiety, or physical access that need to be addressed? A good provider will use this information to plan sessions that genuinely match your interests rather than fitting you into a fixed program.

For group programs, you will join a small group of other participants for a shared activity such as a day trip, exercise class, or social event. Group ratios are typically one support worker to two to four participants. Group programs are social by nature and often work well for participants who enjoy company but find 1:1 settings less motivating.

For individual support, the support worker goes with you one-on-one to activities of your choosing. They provide assistance as needed, whether that is physical help, communication support, or simply being present for confidence and safety. Over time, the goal for many participants is to reduce the level of support needed as confidence and skills grow.

Activity costs, transport, and meals are your responsibility unless otherwise specified. Confirm with the provider what is and is not covered in the session rate.
