How we rank providers

Rankings in Australia are based on real outcomes between providers and families on our platform. They are recalculated daily and cannot be purchased or influenced by advertising.

  • How this list is built. Providers shown here are registered with the NDIS for Assistance with daily life tasks in a group or shared living arrangement and Group and Centre Based Activities, or offer respite, support work, and personal care. Generalist providers who only mention this service in passing are excluded, so the list reflects genuine, demonstrated capability.
  • Outcomes with families. We measure what happens after a family contacts a provider. Providers where families report positive outcomes rank higher. Multiple signals are weighted across a rolling window.
  • Service match. Providers are ranked by how closely their registered services and capabilities match what you are searching for.
  • Registration and compliance. NDIS registered and government-approved aged care providers are weighted for meeting quality and safeguards standards.
  • Local presence. Providers confirmed in Australia rank above those covering only the broader region.

What "Trusted" means. The Trusted badge is awarded to providers with a consistent record of positive outcomes with families on our platform. It is based on multiple behavioural signals and family feedback, and it cannot be purchased.

How to check a provider's credentials

Carevo lists the registration details a provider reports and links you to the official Australian registers so you can confirm them yourself. Here is what each listing shows and where to check it. A listing on Carevo is not an endorsement.

NDIS registration

Listings show whether a provider reports being NDIS registered. You can confirm a provider's current registration and approved support types yourself on the NDIS Commission's public provider register.

Aged care approval

Listings show aged care approval where it is recorded. You can check a provider's current approval and the services they deliver on the Australian Government's My Aged Care find a provider service.

Most listings include the provider's Australian Business Number, shown on the profile. You can look it up on the Australian Business Register to confirm the business is registered and active.

How to Get Respite Care in Australia

The process is as simple as possible to get you help fast.

  • Step 1: Get in touch. The fastest way to get help is to tell Carevo what you need.
  • Step 2: They’ll Listen. A few simple questions about your needs and your loved one’s situation.
  • Step 3: Help is on the Way. You’ll be matched with a suitable support worker who can come to your home at a time that works for you, often on the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can respite care be arranged? The goal is to provide help as quickly as possible. In many cases, providers can arrange for a support worker to be at your home on the same day you call, especially in urgent situations.

What if my loved one has complex needs? Support workers in the Carevo network are experienced in a wide range of care scenarios, including dementia care, mobility assistance, and personal care. During the initial call, your provider will discuss your loved one’s specific needs to ensure the right carer is matched to their skills and experience.

Is respite care covered by NDIS or aged-care funding? It can be, but eligibility rules and caps apply. Under the NDIS, respite is funded as Short Term Respite (formerly Short Term Accommodation) from your Core Supports budget. Short Term Respite is not available to everyone with a plan: to be eligible you generally need to live with your primary informal supports, or get daily drop-in support from them, and receive disability-related support from those informal supports for more than 6 hours a day. It is not funded if you do not live with informal supports, already receive more than 18 hours of paid support a day, or use Supported Independent Living (SIL) or Individualised Living Options (ILO). Eligible participants typically get up to 28 days per year, with a maximum of 14 days at a time.

For aged care, in-home respite is funded under the Support at Home program or the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), as the Home Care Packages program was replaced by Support at Home on 1 November 2025. Residential respite is capped at 63 subsidised days per financial year, extendable 21 days at a time with assessor approval. Connect with qualified professionals who can help you understand and navigate your funding options and eligibility during your consultation.
