About Madeleine

Madeleine (Maddy) Ruskin is Carevo's Head of Communications. She is a Melbourne-based writer, editor, podcast host and disability advocate, and her work centres on representation and inclusion for people with disability, chronic illness and neurodivergence.

Before Carevo she was the Community Manager at Spoony, a social app for people with disability, chronic illness and neurodivergence, where she looked after a community of more than 40,000 members across digital platforms, content, and relationships with the community, the media and creators. She has also worked in editing, digital marketing, social media, audio and video production, and communications for technology companies, non-profits and academia.

She spent more than five years in the screen industry, including as Scripted Coordinator at SBS, as a script development assistant at Such Much Films, and as a recipient of the 2022 Victorian Screen Development Internship with VicScreen, Paramount Australia and New Zealand, and Fremantle Australia. She holds a BA in Creative Writing from RMIT University and a Master of Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing from the University of Melbourne.

Maddy's perspective is also personal. She is chronically ill, neurodivergent and disabled, and lives with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, Long COVID, anxiety and complex post-traumatic stress disorder. That lived experience shapes how she talks with the Carevo community and the stories she tells about finding support.
