How we rank providers

Rankings in Australia are based on real outcomes between providers and families on our platform. They are recalculated daily and cannot be purchased or influenced by advertising.

  • How this list is built. Providers shown here offer nursing.
  • Outcomes with families. We measure what happens after a family contacts a provider. Providers where families report positive outcomes rank higher. Multiple signals are weighted across a rolling window.
  • Service match. Providers are ranked by how closely their registered services and capabilities match what you are searching for.
  • Registration and compliance. NDIS registered and government-approved aged care providers are weighted for meeting quality and safeguards standards.
  • Local presence. Providers confirmed in Australia rank above those covering only the broader region.

What "Trusted" means. The Trusted badge is awarded to providers with a consistent record of positive outcomes with families on our platform. It is based on multiple behavioural signals and family feedback, and it cannot be purchased.

How much does nursing care consumables cost in Australia?

Nursing Care Consumables in Australia typically costs 100% government funded under Support at Home (Clinical Supports). Actual rates vary by provider, funding type, and the level of support required.

How to pay for nursing care consumables

Funding options include Support at Home. Eligibility depends on your assessment and plan.

Getting the Right Medical Supplies Without the Stress

When you or a family member needs ongoing wound care, continence support, or respiratory equipment at home, the last thing you want to worry about is where to get supplies and how to pay for them. Running out of wound dressings on a Friday evening, or trying to work out which continence product actually fits properly, is not something anyone should have to figure out alone.

Under the Australian Government’s Support at Home program, nursing care consumables fall under the Clinical Supports category. That means they are 100% government funded with no co-contribution from you. The products you need to manage your health at home are covered, and providers through Carevo can help you access them.

What Counts as a Nursing Care Consumable?

Nursing care consumables are the everyday medical products that support clinical care in your home. They are prescribed or recommended by a registered nurse or your GP, and supplied on an ongoing basis as part of your care plan.

Wound Care Products

If you are managing a wound at home in Australia, whether from surgery, a pressure injury, or a chronic ulcer, you will need a reliable supply of the right dressings and products.

  • Specialised wound dressings: Foam dressings, hydrocolloid dressings, alginate dressings, and film dressings selected for your specific wound type.
  • Prescribed skin emollients: Products prescribed to maintain skin integrity as part of your clinical care.
  • Negative pressure wound therapy supplies: For complex wounds that require vacuum-assisted closure.

Everyday items a nurse is expected to carry, such as bandages and antiseptics, are included in the nursing hourly price rather than funded as separate consumables. Your nursing provider will assess the wound regularly and adjust products as healing progresses.

Continence Products

Continence issues affect many older Australians, and getting the right products makes a real difference to comfort, skin health, and dignity.

  • Continence pads and pull-ups: Available in a range of absorbencies and sizes, fitted to your needs by a continence nurse.
  • Catheter supplies: Including catheter bags, catheter valves, cleaning supplies, and replacement catheters as clinically required.
  • Skin barrier creams and wipes: Products that protect the skin from moisture damage and irritation.

A continence assessment by a registered nurse will determine the right products for you. Many people put up with products that do not fit well or absorb enough, simply because they do not know what else is available.

Oxygen and Respiratory Equipment Consumables

For people in Australia who use oxygen therapy or other respiratory support at home, the consumable supplies are covered too.

  • Oxygen tubing and nasal cannulas: Replacement tubing and prongs to maintain hygiene and function.
  • Nebuliser masks and chambers: Disposable or replaceable components for nebuliser therapy.
  • Suction catheter supplies: For those requiring airway suctioning at home.

How the Supply Process Works

Getting your consumables sorted is more straightforward than you might expect. Here is how it typically works when you connect with a provider through Carevo.

Step 1: Clinical assessment. A registered nurse visits your Australia home to assess your clinical needs. For wound care, they examine the wound and determine the appropriate treatment plan. For continence, they complete a full continence assessment. For respiratory needs, they review your current equipment and supply requirements.

Step 2: Product selection. Based on the assessment, your nurse selects the appropriate products considering clinical suitability, comfort, and availability.

Step 3: Ordering and delivery. Your provider orders the consumables on your behalf. Most providers have established supply arrangements with medical distributors, so delivery is handled efficiently.

Step 4: Ongoing management. Your nurse monitors supply levels and reorders before you run out. If your clinical needs change, they adjust products accordingly.

Who Is Eligible?

To access government-funded nursing care consumables, you need to be assessed and approved for Support at Home services through My Aged Care. The consumables are funded under the Clinical Supports category, which covers clinical care needs.

If you held a Home Care Package on 31 October 2025, you were transitioned to Support at Home on 1 November 2025, with any unspent funds carried over. Nursing care consumables are now accessed through your Support at Home services.

If you are not yet in the system, the starting point is a call to My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. They will arrange an assessment to determine what support you are eligible for. Providers through Carevo can guide you through this process if you are unsure where to begin.

The Role of Your Nursing Team

Registered nurses do more than just use these products during visits. They also:

  • Educate you and your family on how to manage supplies between visits, if appropriate.
  • Monitor for complications such as wound infection, skin breakdown, or equipment malfunction.
  • Liaise with your GP and specialists when clinical needs change and different products or approaches are required.
  • Document everything so there is a clear clinical record for continuity of care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay anything for nursing care consumables? Under the Support at Home Clinical Supports category, nursing care consumables are 100% government funded. There is no co-contribution required from you.

Can I choose my own products or brands? Your nurse will recommend products based on clinical suitability. If you have a preference or a product that has worked well for you in the past, let your nurse know. They will accommodate your preference where it is clinically appropriate.

What if I run out of supplies between nursing visits? A well-managed supply plan should prevent this. If you do run low, contact your provider and they will arrange a top-up delivery or drop-off. Do not go without the products you need.

How quickly can I get started? Once you have a Support at Home assessment in place, most providers can begin supplying consumables within a week. For urgent clinical needs, providers may be able to fast-track the process.
