How we rank providers

Rankings in Australia are based on real outcomes between providers and families on our platform. They are recalculated daily and cannot be purchased or influenced by advertising.

  • How this list is built. Providers shown here are registered with the NDIS for Therapeutic Supports, or offer allied health. Generalist providers who only mention this service in passing are excluded, so the list reflects genuine, demonstrated capability.
  • Outcomes with families. We measure what happens after a family contacts a provider. Providers where families report positive outcomes rank higher. Multiple signals are weighted across a rolling window.
  • Service match. Providers are ranked by how closely their registered services and capabilities match what you are searching for.
  • Registration and compliance. NDIS registered and government-approved aged care providers are weighted for meeting quality and safeguards standards.
  • Local presence. Providers confirmed in Australia rank above those covering only the broader region.

What "Trusted" means. The Trusted badge is awarded to providers with a consistent record of positive outcomes with families on our platform. It is based on multiple behavioural signals and family feedback, and it cannot be purchased.

How much does myotherapy cost in Australia?

Effective Chronic Pain Relief That Comes to Your Home in Australia

Chronic pain, muscle tension, and postural problems are manageable, but getting on top of them requires regular, consistent treatment. When mobility is limited, fatigue is a factor, or simply getting to a clinic represents a significant effort, that consistency is hard to maintain. The result is that pain that could be managed builds up and becomes harder to treat.

Carevo connects you with qualified myotherapists in Australia who bring professional soft tissue therapy directly to your home. Practitioners through the network are members of the Myotherapy Association Australia or registered with relevant massage therapy associations, and are experienced in treating chronic pain, sports injuries, and postural conditions in clinical and home settings.

The Right Support is About More Than Just a Relaxing Massage

Are you worried about:

  • Chronic pain that has not responded to standard treatments? Myotherapy targets the underlying muscular and soft tissue causes of pain rather than just managing symptoms. Trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and deep tissue work address the source.
  • Whether mobile treatment will be as effective as a clinic visit? Myotherapists who specialise in home visits carry professional portable equipment and apply the same clinical techniques as in a clinic setting.
  • Posture and pain related to your home setup? A myotherapist working in your home can assess your actual seating, bed setup, and workstation ergonomics and provide real-time corrective advice.
  • Finding a practitioner experienced with complex health needs? People managing pain alongside disability, aged care needs, or post-surgical recovery require a therapist with appropriate clinical experience and sensitivity.

Myotherapists through Carevo address all of these, bringing clinical-grade pain management to your door.

How In-Home Myotherapy Helps You Manage Pain and Move Freely

Australia myotherapists through Carevo conduct a thorough initial assessment before treatment, covering your pain history, posture, movement patterns, and any contraindications related to medication or existing conditions.

Conditions and Techniques Covered

  • Trigger Point Therapy: Targeted pressure on myofascial trigger points to release referred pain and muscle tightness. Commonly used for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and hip and shoulder conditions.
  • Deep Tissue and Remedial Massage: Firm, purposeful manual therapy targeting deeper muscle layers to address chronic tension, post-injury scar tissue, and restricted movement.
  • Myofascial Release: Gentle sustained pressure applied to the fascia surrounding muscles, effective for postural pain, fibromyalgia, and conditions involving widespread soft tissue tightness.
  • Dry Needling: Insertion of fine needles into trigger points to reduce pain and improve muscle function, applied by myotherapists with appropriate training and within their scope.
  • Posture and Corrective Exercise: Assessment of posture-related pain contributors with tailored corrective exercises demonstrated in your home environment, targeted at the muscles and movement patterns identified in your assessment.

The Advantage of In-Home Treatment

A myotherapist visiting your home can see the chair you sit in for hours, the pillow arrangement you use, and the way you move between rooms. They can identify environmental contributors to your pain and advise on changes that reduce the load between sessions. This integration of treatment and environment produces better outcomes than clinic-based treatment alone.

Conditions Myotherapy Treats at Home in Australia

Myotherapists through Carevo treat pain and dysfunction in the muscles, fascia, and surrounding soft tissue:

  • Chronic back and neck pain: Soft tissue treatment for muscle tightness, trigger points, and myofascial restrictions contributing to persistent spinal pain.
  • Tension headaches and migraines: Treatment of trigger points and muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back that contribute to headache patterns.
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction: Jaw muscle treatment for people with teeth grinding, jaw clicking, or facial pain.
  • Shoulder and rotator cuff tightness: Myofascial release and soft tissue work for shoulder pain and restricted movement.
  • Repetitive strain injuries: Treatment of forearm, wrist, and elbow overuse injuries from repetitive work or activity.
  • Fibromyalgia: Gentle myotherapy and trigger point therapy adapted for widespread pain sensitivity.
  • Plantar fasciitis and foot pain: Soft tissue treatment of the plantar fascia and calf muscles contributing to heel and foot pain.
  • Post-surgical adhesion and scar tissue: Soft tissue work to address restrictions and adhesions following surgery or injury.
  • Sports injury recovery: Remedial massage, dry needling, and soft tissue treatment during the recovery phase of sporting injuries.
  • Stress-related muscle tension: Treatment of muscular tension patterns resulting from prolonged stress, poor posture, or anxiety.
  • NDIS participants with pain or muscle dysfunction: Myotherapy addresses pain and physical function goals where muscle and soft tissue management is part of the plan.

Contact a provider through Carevo if your situation is not listed.

Funding Options for Home Myotherapy in Australia

Myotherapy is not a directly listed NDIS therapeutic support. Funding pathways include:

  • Private health insurance: Most extras policies include remedial massage or myotherapy. Check whether your policy distinguishes between the two, as some funds cover myotherapy separately. Annual limits and per-visit rebates vary by fund.
  • NDIS: Myotherapy and remedial massage are not listed NDIS support line items, and the NDIA treats massage as more appropriately provided by the health system. Funding is the exception rather than the norm. It is possible only in limited, individually justified cases where the support is delivered by a qualified allied health professional and tied to disability-related functional goals, generally on self-managed or plan-managed plans. Discuss with your support coordinator.
  • DVA: DVA does not fund standalone myotherapy or remedial massage. Massage is only funded by DVA when provided as part of a consultation with a DVA-recognised physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath for an accepted condition.
  • Medicare: Myotherapy is not a standard Medicare-rebated service. In some cases, it may be included in a Chronic Disease Management plan at a GP’s discretion.
  • Private payment: All providers accept direct payment.

Making Funding Simple

Providers through Carevo are experienced in navigating the funding for in-home myotherapy.

  • NDIS: Myotherapy and remedial massage are not listed NDIS support line items, and the NDIA considers massage more appropriately provided by the health system. NDIS funding is the exception, not the norm, and is restricted to individually justified cases where the support is delivered by a qualified allied health professional and tied to the participant’s disability and functional goals. A letter of support from your GP or treating specialist strengthens the case.
  • Support at Home (replaced Home Care Packages from 1 November 2025): Remedial massage can be funded as a prescribed allied health service when delivered by a therapist holding a Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy or Certificate IV in Massage Therapy. Myotherapy is not currently a recognised category under the aged care allied health framework. Speak with your care partner or provider.
  • Private Health Insurance: Most extras policies with a remedial massage or myotherapy benefit cover sessions with a member of a recognised professional association. Check your policy for annual limits and rebate amounts.
  • DVA: DVA does not fund standalone myotherapy or remedial massage. Massage is only funded by DVA when provided as part of a consultation with a DVA-recognised physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath for an accepted condition.

Why Australia Residents Trust Myotherapy Providers Through Carevo

Qualified Members of Professional Associations

Myotherapists through Carevo are members of the Myotherapy Association Australia or registered with relevant massage therapy associations. These memberships require completion of recognised qualifications in myotherapy or remedial massage, ongoing professional development, and adherence to professional and ethical standards.

Trained in Complex and Sensitive Clinical Contexts

Providers are experienced in treating clients with disability, older adults with multiple health conditions, and people recovering from surgery or injury. They understand contraindications related to medications such as blood thinners, osteoporosis, and skin conditions, and adapt their techniques accordingly.

Coordinated with Your Healthcare Team

Myotherapists can communicate with your GP, physiotherapist, or specialist to ensure their treatment complements your broader pain management plan. Where pain requires investigation or is outside their scope, they refer promptly. Written session notes are available for your treating team on request.

How to Access Home Myotherapy in Australia

  1. Check your insurance: Confirm whether your extras policy covers myotherapy or remedial massage and what your annual limit and per-visit rebate are.
  2. NDIS participants: Discuss with your support coordinator whether myotherapy aligns with your plan goals and which budget can fund it. A letter of support from your GP or physiotherapist helps build the case.
  3. Find a qualified myotherapist: Look for a myotherapist who is an Associate Member of Massage and Myotherapy Australia (AMMA) or holds equivalent qualifications. Confirm when browsing Carevo providers.
  4. Initial assessment: Your myotherapist will take a clinical history, assess posture and movement, and identify the areas of soft tissue dysfunction that are contributing to your pain or restriction.
  5. Treatment plan: Treatment typically involves a combination of massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, dry needling, and corrective exercises.
  6. Session frequency: Most clients start with weekly or fortnightly sessions. Chronic conditions often require a longer treatment course before transitioning to maintenance intervals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between myotherapy and remedial massage? Both involve manual soft tissue therapy, but myotherapy is a more comprehensive clinical discipline. Myotherapists complete a longer qualification covering anatomy, pathology, and a wider range of treatment modalities including dry needling, cupping, and corrective exercise prescription. Remedial massage focuses primarily on massage-based techniques. Both can be effective for pain management, and the right choice depends on your condition.

Is myotherapy safe for people with osteoporosis or other bone conditions? Yes, when delivered by a qualified practitioner who is aware of your condition. Myotherapists adapt their techniques for clients with osteoporosis, using lighter pressure and avoiding deep compressive work on vulnerable areas. Always disclose your full medical history and any bone density findings at your first appointment so your therapist can adjust their approach accordingly.

How many sessions will I need before seeing results? For acute conditions, many people notice improvement within two to three sessions. Chronic pain and longstanding postural conditions typically require a longer course of treatment, often six to ten sessions over several weeks, before significant and sustained improvement is established. Your therapist will outline a recommended treatment schedule after your initial assessment.

What is dry needling and is it available during home myotherapy visits? Dry needling is a technique where fine needles are inserted into trigger points in muscle to release tension and reduce pain. It is different from acupuncture in that it targets specific muscle dysfunctions rather than following traditional meridian pathways. Many myotherapists are trained in dry needling and can perform it during home visits. Confirm this with your provider when booking if it is a technique you want included.

What is the difference between myotherapy and remedial massage in more detail? Myotherapy is an advanced form of remedial massage therapy involving clinical assessment, a wider range of treatment techniques (including dry needling, joint mobilisation, and exercise prescription), and a more structured therapeutic approach. Remedial massage focuses primarily on hands-on soft tissue work. Myotherapists hold a higher qualification, typically a Bachelor’s or Advanced Diploma. Both can be effective, but myotherapy is more appropriate for complex or chronic presentations.

Can myotherapy help with nerve pain or is it only for muscles? Myotherapy primarily treats the muscles and fascia surrounding nerves rather than the nerves themselves. In some cases, muscle tightness compresses nearby nerves, causing referred pain and nerve symptoms. Releasing the muscular tension through myotherapy can reduce nerve irritation and associated symptoms. If your nerve pain originates from spinal compression or neurological pathology, myotherapy alone is not sufficient, and you should also see a physiotherapist or GP.
