Some supports require registration whatever the plan type, including specialist behaviour support and plan management. Check current SIL registration and transition requirements before arranging SIL.

What High Intensity Daily Support Covers

Ventilator and Respiratory Support

Management of ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP machines, suctioning, and respiratory monitoring. Workers need respiratory competency training and access to clinical supervision.

Tracheostomy Management

Care and maintenance of tracheostomy tubes, suctioning, emergency tube replacement procedures. One of the highest-risk support activities requiring specific clinical governance.

Enteral Feeding (PEG/NGT)

Complex Wound Management

A participant's current provider cannot cover night shifts for tracheostomy care. You need a second provider with high intensity registration to fill the gap. Ensure both providers communicate about the participant's care plan.

A participant with epilepsy needs a new support worker trained in Midazolam administration. Check that the provider has a Midazolam protocol, that the prescribing GP has provided standing orders, and that the worker completes competency assessment before starting.
