What sets the fee
Chiropractic fees are private fees, not government-capped rates, so two practitioners in the same suburb can charge differently for the same appointment. The main variables are whether it is an initial or follow-up consultation, whether the visit is at home or in a clinic, and how long the session runs. Get the initial and follow-up fees in writing before booking, and for home visits ask whether travel is included in the quoted fee or billed on top.
Medicare rebates
Medicare rebates part of the fee for up to five allied health visits per calendar year under a GP Chronic Condition Management plan, shared across all allied health disciplines (Services Australia, Medicare Benefits Schedule, 2025). Most chiropractors charge a gap above the rebate, so a plan reduces the cost per visit rather than removing it. Ask your GP whether your condition qualifies before assuming the rebate applies.
Private health and DVA
Private health extras cover commonly includes chiropractic, with the rebate set by your level of cover; check that your policy pays on home visits, not only clinic appointments. Veterans with a Gold Card, or a White Card where the condition is accepted, can access chiropractic on GP referral through DVA arrangements.
Is chiropractic NDIS funded?
The NDIA excludes chiropractic as an alternative or complementary therapy. Do not use an NDIS plan to pay for it. Discuss eligible disability-related therapy options separately with your treating team and confirm the stated support.
