How Much Does In-Home Nursing Cost?
It only takes one minute and it's free.
What you pay for in-home nursing depends entirely on the funding door. Under the NDIS, nursing is claimed against published price limits that vary by nurse level and time of week. Under Support at Home, approved clinical nursing has no participant contribution within the care plan and available budget. The price still affects the hours the budget can buy. Privately hired nurses set their own hourly rates, and a full day of private nursing is typically quoted as an hourly rate multiplied out rather than a flat day fee.

- Free. One request, providers contact you.
NDIS nursing price limits
The NDIS prices community nursing by the level of the nurse and when the care is delivered, with higher limits for evenings, weekends and public holidays. The current price limits for the support items in-home nursing is usually claimed under are listed below, drawn from the live 2026-27 price guide. Which item applies depends on the clinical task, so check the code against your plan or ask the provider.
Support at Home: no contribution
For older Australians in the Support at Home program, clinical supports including nursing carry no client contribution: the government funds 100 percent of clinical care approved in your care plan (Department of Health and Aged Care, Support at Home program, 2025). Compare prices as well as availability and suitability: charges use the available budget and affect the hours it can buy.
Hiring a nurse privately
Private in-home nursing is quoted hourly, with the rate set by the provider and the nurse level: the provider should identify the qualification and clinical scope required before quoting. For a full day, expect the hourly rate multiplied across the shift, with any minimum engagement agreed in the quote. Get an itemised quote showing the hourly rate, any travel charge, and weekend loadings before booking.
A day of private nursing for post-surgical support or family respite is one of the most common requests, and the practical questions to ask are the nurse level being sent, whether medication management is included, and what happens if the shift needs to extend.
NDIS price limits for home nursing services
These are selected support items relevant to this service, not a funding approval or a complete list. Confirm the task, practitioner, plan and item before booking. Price limits apply to NDIA-managed and plan-managed purchases where the pricing rules apply. Self-managed participants can negotiate above or below these limits.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire a nurse for a day?
Private in-home nursing is quoted hourly rather than as a day rate, with the nurse level, hourly rate and minimum engagement set out in the quote. Ask for an itemised quote for the full shift including travel and any loadings.
What does the NDIS pay for community nursing?
The NDIS publishes price limits by nurse level and time of week in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements. The current limits for the common nursing support items are shown in the table on this page.
Is nursing free under Support at Home?
Yes. Clinical supports including nursing carry no client contribution under Support at Home; the government funds them fully when approved in your care plan and within the available budget. Prices still affect the hours that budget can buy.
Is an enrolled nurse cheaper than a registered nurse?
The published NDIS enrolled nurse limit is lower than the registered nurse limit. Private fees vary. Providers decide the nurse level by the clinical tasks required, so the cheaper option is only available when the care does not require a registered nurse.

Compare home nursing services providers
Prices only mean something next to a provider who services your area. The home nursing services page ranks providers on the Carevo platform with current coverage and measured response times, and the cost and funding section there covers how each funding type applies. Carevo is a connection platform: it connects you with providers and does not deliver care itself.
