How this list is ordered: by profile substance (self-reported checks and credentials, weighted toward the NDIS Worker Screening Check, a photo and a completed profile, the practical details shown on each card, experience up to ten years, and how recently the worker joined) blended with distance from The Gap; workers whose stated travel range does not reach The Gap appear last. Payment plays no part in ordering, higher placement is not a recommendation, and everything a worker reports remains self-reported unless marked otherwise.
Families never pay Carevo. Providers pay a subscription to connect with families, with no commission or paid ranking. How Carevo works
Hiring a private support worker, also called an independent support worker, means you find a support worker and engage them directly rather than through a provider's roster.
Describe the support you want in The Gap, where you need it, and when. You only fill this in once, and it takes about a minute. There is no obligation and nothing to pay.
Carevo shares your request with matched independent support workers nearby, and with agencies where you want them. Anyone interested connects and reaches out to you, so several people can respond, not just one.
You end up with a shortlist of people who actually want the work. Talk only to the ones you choose, and agree the arrangement between you.
Since Carevo launched, 20+ requests for personal care and daily support have been submitted through Carevo across Northern Territory. How we calculate our numbers
Rates are agreed directly between you and the worker. As a reference point, the NDIS price limit for Assistance With Self-Care Activities - Standard - Weekday Daytime (01_011_0107_1_1) is $73.58 an hour as of 22 July 2026 (NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27). Price limits apply to applicable managed supports; self-managed participants can negotiate rates under their funding rules. Independent workers set their own rates, which may be below or above what a provider charges.
Carevo does not set, take a cut of, or guarantee any rate.
| Funding type | Hire directly? | Notes |

| Agency-managed (NDIA-managed) | Only if NDIS registered | Use registered providers in The Gap. |
| Support at Home (aged care) | Ask your provider | Funds run through your Support at Home provider; ask them first. |
| Private payment | Yes | NDIS funding rules do not apply, but normal tax, insurance, safety and any employment obligations still do. |

Self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants can engage individual workers directly where the specific support and registration rules allow it. Agency-managed budgets can only pay registered providers. In aged care, Support at Home (which replaced the Home Care Packages Program on 1 November 2025) funds run through your Support at Home provider, so ask them first. Check with your plan manager before you start.
No. Checks and credentials are self-reported by each worker; Carevo has not sighted or verified them, and a listing is not an endorsement. Sight the documents yourself and ask for references before engaging anyone.
