If you are in aged care rather than the NDIS, end-of-life support has its own funded pathway. The Support at Home End-of-Life Pathway provides a short-term budget for people assessed as being in the final months of life who want to remain at home, released over 12 weeks and able to be drawn down over up to 16. It sits outside the ongoing classification budget, so it does not consume your quarterly funding. The honest answer has two halves, and separating them removes most of the fear about cost.

Daytime personal care is predictable and modest. What changes the cost is the last few weeks, when someone needs a presence overnight. Three things reduce the total without reducing the care.
