Where can I find self-managed home care package providers?
There is no official register of self-management providers; the My Aged Care Find a provider tool lists every registered provider but does not say which ones support self-management. The ranked list above narrows Carevo’s 4,157 listed aged care providers to those matched to self-managed arrangements, weighted by real acceptance of Home Care Package and Support at Home funding on the platform. Beyond any list, the filter that matters is a provider’s answer to one question: what total percentage do they deduct from your budget, in writing.
What is a self-managed home care package?
Self-managing means you do the coordination work yourself: finding workers, setting the roster, negotiating rates and checking invoices, while a registered provider holds your government budget, processes claims and stays accountable for clinical oversight. You cannot hold the funds directly; Support at Home budgets and transitioned Home Care Packages must sit with a provider registered with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (Department of Health and Aged Care, 2025). The practical difference is how much of the budget goes to coordination overhead instead of care hours.
Support at Home replaced the Home Care Packages Program for new participants on 1 November 2025, and self-management works the same way under both: the budget sits with a registered provider, and you direct how it is spent.
How much does self-managing save?
Under Support at Home, care management is capped at 10 percent of your budget and separate package management fees are banned, with overheads otherwise built into unit prices (Department of Health and Aged Care, 2025). A fully managed arrangement spends that care management allowance on the provider doing the coordinating. When you self-manage, the provider’s role shrinks to administration and oversight, so more of the budget buys support hours, and because you negotiate worker rates directly, each hour can cost less too. On a transitioned Level 4 package of $65,543.98 a year (My Aged Care, 2025), the difference between a heavily managed and a self-managed arrangement is commonly thousands of dollars a year in extra care.
How to choose a self-management provider from the list above
The list above is ranked using the criteria explained in the methodology above it. When you compare providers for self-management specifically, ask four things. What is the total percentage they deduct from the budget, in writing. Whether you can engage independent contractors and workers from any source, or only their approved panel. How quickly they approve invoices and reimburse, since slow processing effectively freezes your budget. And what clinical oversight they still provide, because under the Aged Care Act the registered provider remains responsible for the safety and quality of services delivered through your budget.
Where do I find the workers?
Finding good workers is the hardest part of self-managing, and it is the part no provider does for you. Carevo lists independent workers you can engage directly: independent support workers, private carers, NDIS cleaners for the domestic assistance in your budget, and overnight carers for sleepover or active night cover. Worker profiles show self-reported checks and credentials, availability and travel range; sight the documents yourself before engaging anyone, and confirm your provider will reimburse workers from outside their panel first.
What work does self-managing actually involve?
Plan on a few hours a fortnight. You recruit and interview workers, check their credentials (police check, insurance, ABN for contractors), build and adjust the roster, arrange cover when someone is sick, and approve timesheets and invoices. You also keep receipts so spending stays within the budget’s service categories. Families who self-manage successfully usually have one organised family member who treats it like running a small roster, often with help from a home care package calculator to track spending against the budget.
How do I switch to a self-managed provider?
Switching is allowed at any time, and exit fees are banned (Department of Health and Aged Care, 2025). The sequence that avoids a care gap: pick the new provider first and confirm their self-management terms in writing, agree a transfer date, then give notice to your current provider. Unspent funds follow you to the new provider, and your funding classification does not change because you moved. Book the transfer for early in a care period where you can, ask the outgoing provider for a final statement of unspent funds, and brief your regular workers, because in a self-managed arrangement the workers you found can usually keep working with you through the new provider.
Who should not self-manage?
Self-managing suits people who want control and have the time to use it. It is a poor fit when care needs are clinically complex or changing fast, when there is no family member able to run the roster, or when finding workers in your area is hard to begin with. In those cases a fully managed provider, or a middle option where the provider fills the roster you approve, protects continuity of care. You can change your management approach later; moving between arrangements is allowed, and no exit fees apply (Department of Health and Aged Care, 2025).
Availability
Carevo measures whether a provider accepts an enquiry, not when care starts or a practitioner contacts you. Confirm current capacity and a start date directly. How Carevo measures enquiry acceptance.
How this page is compiled
The provider rankings and figures on this page come from Carevo platform records, including provider registrations, measured response times and coverage, together with the cited official sources. Carevo is an Australian platform that connects families with NDIS and aged care providers. Carevo does not deliver care itself.
Funding sources and checks
Check the current NDIA pricing arrangements and Support at Home program rules for the proposed service. Funding depends on the approved support and available budget; a Carevo listing is not approval. Confirm availability and a start date directly with the provider.
How we rank providers
Rankings in Northern Territory use directory relevance and observable activity on Carevo: service match, distance, register-sourced status fields, whether an enquiry can reach the provider, and recent response and connection activity. Rankings are recalculated daily. They do not assess care quality or recommend a provider.
- How this list is built. Providers shown here offer personal care, social and community support, and nursing.
- Activity on Carevo. We measure recent actions such as connecting on an enquiry, opening its contact details, responding, and an inquirer reporting whether a connection helped. These are platform activity signals, not an assessment of the support delivered.
- Service match. Providers are ranked by how closely their registered services and capabilities match what you are searching for.
- Register-sourced status. NDIS registration fields come from the NDIS Commission provider register. Aged care approval fields come from the My Aged Care register. These statuses are ranking inputs, not Carevo endorsements, and you should confirm the current register entry before choosing a provider.
- Carevo enquiries. Providers who have paused requests from us are moved down among providers with the same relevance. They stay visible and are marked as not receiving Carevo enquiries.
- Recent activity. Providers active on Carevo recently (a connection, a login, or a profile update) get a small boost, the same signal shown as "Active this week" on their card. It is deliberately small: stronger relevance and condition evidence outweigh a recent login.
- Local presence. Providers confirmed in Northern Territory rank above those covering only the broader region.
What the enquiries status means
It answers one question: would a request sent through Carevo today actually reach them? It is not a rating, it is not about the provider's books, and it is not a statement about their capacity, their waiting list, or the quality of their care.
- Receiving
- At least one contact on their account is set up to receive new requests from us, and someone has signed in recently enough for us to say a person is there.
- Not receiving
- Every contact on the account has unsubscribed or paused, so we have no way to pass an enquiry on.
- No status shown
- We cannot tell either way, so we say nothing rather than label the provider. The account is set to receive enquiries, but nobody has signed in recently, or there are no contact details on file. It is not a negative mark, and most listings sit here.
A provider who is not receiving our enquiries may well be taking new clients directly. Providers set this themselves and can turn it back on at any time from their Carevo account or from any email we send them. Providers not receiving our enquiries are moved down the list and never hidden. It is refreshed daily, so a provider who resumes, or signs in, reappears within a day.
What the Carevo activity rating means
The Strong activity rating describes how a provider behaves on Carevo, not the care they deliver.
- Where it starts
- Every provider starts at a baseline of 50.
- What moves it
- Enquiries from the last 90 days. The strongest positive is a care seeker naming that provider as the one who helped them. The clearest negative is connecting on an enquiry and never opening the contact details.
- How it is kept honest
- Recalculated daily from scratch, shown only above the baseline and only with at least two scored signals, and removed automatically when either stops being true. It cannot be purchased.
It is not an endorsement, a recommendation, or an assessment of care quality, and we do not screen providers for complaints. Complaints are handled by the NDIS Commission and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. See the full activity rating methodology.
