When to use this code
Use this code when a participant receives hands-on personal care on a gazetted public holiday. This includes help with showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, or eating. Public holiday rates are the highest loading tier, reflecting the penalty rates support workers receive on these days. If the support happens at a different time, check the related items for the correct time-based code. The wrong time code is a common audit flag.
Common billing scenarios
- A participant receives personal care on Christmas Day. The provider bills at the public holiday rate of $156.03, which is the highest loading tier.
- On a public holiday, a support worker provides 4 hours of combined personal care and household support. The provider splits the time: personal care hours under this code and household tasks under the corresponding public holiday household code.
Provider notes
- Short notice cancellation fees apply. If a participant cancels with less than 7 clear days notice (or 2 clear business days for some supports), you can charge up to 90% of the agreed fee. You must document the cancellation and have the cancellation policy in your service agreement.
- Only gazetted public holidays qualify for this rate. If a public holiday falls on a weekend and the substitute day is on a weekday, check your state or territory’s rules to confirm which day attracts the public holiday loading.
- This is a Core support, which means participants can generally use their Core funding flexibly across different Core categories (unless their plan states otherwise). Check with the participant’s plan manager if you are unsure about flexibility.
