How much does a home sleep study cost, and how does it compare with a lab study?

A laboratory study means a night in a sleep unit with a technician monitoring a full range of signals. A home study records the core measurements, breathing, oxygen levels, heart rate and sleep position, often brain activity too, using equipment you wear overnight. Home studies suit straightforward suspected apnoea and people who sleep badly in strange places. Laboratory studies remain the recommendation for complex cases: suspected narcolepsy, significant heart or lung disease, or a home study that fails or returns an unclear result.
