How we rank providers

Rankings in New South Wales are based on real outcomes between providers and families on our platform. They are recalculated daily and cannot be purchased or influenced by advertising.

  • How this list is built. Providers shown here are registered with the NDIS for Personal Mobility Equipment and Assistive Technology, or offer occupational therapy and allied health. Generalist providers who only mention this service in passing are excluded, so the list reflects genuine, demonstrated capability.
  • Outcomes with families. We measure what happens after a family contacts a provider. Providers where families report positive outcomes rank higher. Multiple signals are weighted across a rolling window.
  • Service match. Providers are ranked by how closely their registered services and capabilities match what you are searching for.
  • Registration and compliance. NDIS registered and government-approved aged care providers are weighted for meeting quality and safeguards standards.
  • Local presence. Providers confirmed in New South Wales rank above those covering only the broader region.

What "Trusted" means. The Trusted badge is awarded to providers with a consistent record of positive outcomes with families on our platform. It is based on multiple behavioural signals and family feedback, and it cannot be purchased.

How we calculate provider numbers

How to check a provider's credentials

Carevo lists the registration details a provider reports and links you to the official Australian registers so you can confirm them yourself. Here is what each listing shows and where to check it. A listing on Carevo is not an endorsement.

NDIS registration

Listings show whether a provider reports being NDIS registered. You can confirm a provider's current registration and approved support types yourself on the NDIS Commission's public provider register.

Aged care approval

Listings show aged care approval where it is recorded. You can check a provider's current approval and the services they deliver on the Australian Government's My Aged Care find a provider service.

ABN you can check

Most listings include the provider's Australian Business Number, shown on the profile. You can look it up on the Australian Business Register to confirm the business is registered and active.

Complaints process

If you have a concern about any provider, you can lodge a complaint with the NDIS Commission or the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission at any time. We also accept complaints via our own channel.

How much does specialist seating assessment cost in New South Wales?

Specialist Seating Assessment in New South Wales typically costs $200-$500/assessment, $300-$10,000+ for seating systems. Actual rates vary by provider, funding type, and the level of support required.

How to pay for specialist seating assessment

Funding options include NDIS Assistive Technology. Eligibility depends on your assessment and plan.

What is a specialist seating assessment?

A specialist seating assessment is a clinical evaluation, usually by an occupational therapist or physiotherapist with postural training, that measures posture, pressure distribution and functional movement to prescribe the right wheelchair cushion, backrest or custom-moulded seating system. The NDIS lists it as an Assistive Technology assessment support under NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27.

How to choose a provider for this service

The list at the top of this page is ranked using the criteria explained in the methodology above it. For a seating assessment, four checks matter most.

Registration. Confirm the assessor is an AHPRA-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with seating and postural training, not a general therapist doing an occasional assessment.

Response time. A pressure injury or a new wheelchair prescription is often urgent, so check how fast a provider actually replies rather than how fast they claim to. Carevo tracks response times across its 642 listed occupational therapists nationally.

Pricing transparency. Ask whether the quoted fee covers the full assessment report needed to support an NDIS Assistive Technology request, or whether report-writing is billed as a separate line item.

Coverage. Confirm the assessor travels to your home or care setting, since seating is best assessed in the chair and environment the person actually uses.

Which funding pays for a specialist seating assessment, and who qualifies?

NDIS participants access the assessment itself under Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living, while any prescribed cushion, backrest or custom-moulded system is funded separately under Core Supports - Assistive Technology once the therapist’s report supports the request (NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27). You qualify if postural support, pressure care or mobility goals sit in your plan; complex or high-cost seating over the AT threshold needs NDIA quoting and approval first. Support at Home participants can have a seating assessment and pressure-relief equipment funded under the assistive technology and home modifications budget, subject to the program’s income-tested contribution rules (Department of Health and Aged Care, 2025). CHSP does not fund clinical seating assessments. DVA Gold Card holders can access one through the Rehabilitation Appliances Program.

Where specialist seating assessment providers are available

Carevo lists 642 occupational therapists among 28,004 NDIS-registered providers across 4,782 suburbs nationally, with allied health enquiries answered inside 24 hours 94 percent of the time. Seating assessments are often booked alongside wheelchair and mobility equipment for the frame itself, or bed and pressure care equipment for overnight positioning.

How this page is compiled

The provider rankings and figures on this page come from Carevo platform records, including provider registrations, measured response times and coverage, together with the cited official sources. Carevo is an Australian platform that connects families with vetted NDIS and aged care providers. Carevo does not deliver care itself.
