What counts as a minor home repair?
A minor home repair is a small, low-risk maintenance job, such as a leaking tap, a loose handrail, a sticking door, or a broken cabinet hinge, that does not require a licensed trade beyond basic fixes. The Department of Health and Aged Care (2025) lists home maintenance and minor repairs as an approved “everyday living” support under Support at Home. Larger structural, electrical, or plumbing work is referred to a licensed tradesperson.
Who it is for and how it is funded
Minor home repairs are for older people who need small maintenance jobs done to stay safe at home, but cannot manage the task themselves or arrange a reliable tradesperson. Eligible clients can fund this support through the Support at Home program, which replaced Home Care Packages from 1 November 2025, or through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) for lower-level, entry-level assistance (Department of Health and Aged Care, 2025). Veterans may access equivalent support through DVA.
Availability on Carevo
Carevo currently lists 28,038 vetted providers, covering 4,782 suburbs nationwide. For larger jobs, such as grab rails, ramps, or bathroom modifications, see home modifications and maintenance.
